We strive to answer as many of your questions about this process as possible. In order to incorporate questions from you, please respond to this short survey

Wednesday, September 17, 2014

We have had many great college visits at Westwood this week and students are asking a lot of great questions. Here are a several key points from the UT-Austin Admission Rep Nick Howell regarding a the admissions process for UT-Austin:

  • Apply to your first choice major. Changing majors once admitted to UT-Austin is becoming more difficult.
  • The admissions process is holistic.
  • December 1st is the application deadline, but October 15th is the preferred deadline. While early submission does not provide an advantage in the UT admission process, it does encourage students to complete the process early. More than 50% of applications are submitted in the final weeks leading  up to December 1st.
News for Juniors
For the class of 2016 (current high school juniors) UT-Austin will admit students ranked in the top 8% of their class.

Please remember all college visits at Westwood are for students only and to see the most up to date information please visit the College Visits page.

Wondering about what college might best prepare you for medical school?

Read comments from a colleague in Rhode Island:

"Many of my Dr. clients will tell you that a good, small liberal arts college is the best bet because of the support and professor access. Larger universities often grade science courses on a curve, have TA's teaching, and there are a very limited number of A's and B's. The kids with C's and below are not getting into med school. Once Organic Chem hits, a lot of students get left by the wayside. An important stat to know is NOT just what percentage are accepted to med school, but what percentage of students who start as pre-med finish the program. If you have a large weed out factor along the way, it's not hard to post a high acceptance rate."
