Austin Community College Early College Start

Juniors and Seniors interested in taking classes at Austin Community College this summer or next  school year should visit with their counselor or Mrs. Kirk. Students are eligible to take classes the summer following their 10th grade year and may take up to 2 classes per semester.

Dual credit courses earn both high school and college credit. A list of eligible courses can be found in the RRISD Course Catalog. 

Concurrent enrollment courses earn college credit only and include any class offered at ACC.

This summer ACC classes will be held at 
  • McNeil HS: June 8 to July 7
  • Round Rock HS: July 8 to August 16. 
In order to take courses at ACC, students must meet one of the following: 


  • ACT: Composite score of 23 AND 19 on both the English and Mathematics subtests.
  • SAT: Total score of 1070  (CR + M) AND a minimum of 500 on both the Critical Reading and Mathematics section
  • PSAT: Total score of 107 (CR + M) AND a minimum of 50 on both the Critical Reading and Mathematics sections.
  • PLAN: Composite score of 23; AND 19 in both the English and Mathematics subtests.
  • STAAR/EOC (Spring’14 and newer) ENG II scaled score 4000+ ; ALG I scaled score 4000+ AND completion of Algebra 2 course with a final grade of 70+

8th Grade Parent Night at Westwood - February 4, 2015

An information night for parents of 8th grade students will be held at Westwood on February 4th at 5:45. The purpose of the evening is for parents to learn about course options at Westwood and the new graduation plan.

  • Doors will open at 5:45 to allow parents to visit teachers of elective and core courses. 
  • A general session is scheduled for 6:30.
  • Breakout sessions begin at 7:05.

Texas Tech Clark Scholar Program

The Clark Scholar Program is a seven week summer program for highly qualified high school juniors and seniors.
  • The Program provides opportunities for research in all academic areas in the universities. 
  • The Program includes fun activities, weekly seminars and field trips. 
  • Scholars receive a $750 stipend.
  • Application Deadline: February 9, 2015

Parent Information Night - Current 9th, 10th and 11th Grade Students


Registration for the 2015-2016 academic year began this week with counselors conducting orientation sessions with the current 9th, 10th and 11th grade students. The final orientation sessions will take place on Monday January 26th.  

In order for parents to assist their students in selecting appropriate courses for next year, a parent night has been scheduled for 5:45 on January 28th at Westwood High School. For additional details regarding the evening and a list of breakout sessions, please refer to this document.

The January 28th evening is for parents of current 9th, 10th and 11th grade students. A parent night for current 8th grade students has been scheduled for February 4th.

Redesigned SAT and PSAT

Most students should have received their PSAT results by Thursday (Jan 15) afternoon. Students were provided a presentation to assist them with the interpretation of their results. Sophomores were also provided information regarding the redesigned PSAT and SAT. If you would like to view the PowerPoint students were presented, please visit this link.

The SAT and PSAT are undergoing a redesign. As information is available, it will be shared with students and parents. For additional information regarding the redesign, please visit  www.deliveringopportunity.org This College Board website has additional details regarding the redesign, sample test items and a timeline for implementation.

The current SAT will be available until January 2016 with the redesigned SAT available in March 2016. There are significant changes regarding content and scoring. A few of the major changes include:
  • The essay will be optional and offered at the end of the test.
  • There will be an emphasis on the meaning of words in extended context.
  • There will be a greater emphasis on knowledge and skills learned in class.
  • There will be no deduction for incorrect answers.

The redesigned PSAT will be offered in October of 2015. Significant changes include:
  • Only two sections will be offered (Evidenced Based Reading & Writing and Math)
  • Scoring will be on a 200 to 800 scale.
  • It will more closely mirror the SAT.
  • There will be no deduction for incorrect answers.

In the coming weeks, additional information will be shared with parents and students.
