New Apply Texas Prompts

The Apply Texas Prompts for the 2016-2017 application have been released. Universities have not identified which essays will be required for their specific applications. 


Essay A:
What was the environment in which you were raised? Describe your family, home, neighborhood, or community, and explain how it has shaped you as a person.

Essay B:
Some students have an identity, an interest, or a talent that defines them in an essential way. If you are one of these students , then tell us about yourself.

Essay C:
You've got a ticket in your hand - Where will you go? What will you do? What will happen when you get there?

The Common App essays will remain the same for 2016-2017 and can be found at this January 2016 Common App news release.

Senior Scholarship Award Letters

Seniors, as you receive scholarship offers, please bring a copy of the award letter to Mr. Clark in the main office by April 22nd in order for this information to be included in the Westwood Senior Awards Ceremony program. We will continue to collect this information after April 22nd, but it will not be included in the program. We only publish the name of the scholarship; we will never publish the scholarship dollar amounts.

Enter the FAFSA Contest to Meet Michelle Obama

Two students from WHS will be selected to attend Michelle Obama's speech at SXSW.
The Austin Chamber is conducting a contest for seniors who submit their FAFSA by March 14 at 5:00. Two students from each high school will be selected to hear the First Lady when she visits SXSW on March 16.

To be eligible to win, students must:
File their FAFSA no later than 5 PM Central Time on Monday, March 14th. If selected, student winners must scan and submit their FAFSA confirmation page to Andrew Feller at afeller@austinchamber.com

Be currently enrolled in a high school from one of the following school districts or charter schools:
Austin ISD, Del Valle ISD, Elgin ISD, Hays CISD, Hutto ISD, Leander ISD, Lockhart ISD, Manor ISD, Pflugerville ISD, Round Rock ISD, KIPP Austin Public Schools, Harmony Public Schools, and NYOS

The Chamber will randomly select two eligible students from each of the 40 high schools (80 total) representing the districts/charters mentioned above.  The contest begins immediately and ends Monday, March 14th at 5 PM. Winners will be emailed and called by the Chamber no later than 12 PM the following day, Tuesday, March 15th.
