Global Ethics and Conflict Resolution Summer Symposium

The University of Texas Project on Conflict Resolution (UTPCR) is putting together the 2017 Global Ethics and Conflict Resolution Summer Symposium. This program is a two week long camp (Sunday, June 18-Friday, June 30) for high school students which explores the issues of ethics and conflict at all levels, from the personal to the international. Students will develop critical and creative strategies needed for problem solving, conflict analysis, negotiation, and much more. They will experience life at the University of Texas while learning about the greater world we live in. Some of the activities they will be involved in are producing videos, debating ethical issues, learning to manage conflict, and meeting with distinguished artists, leaders, and faculty.

NAMI Basics 2017 Spring Class Schedule

National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) Basics is a free, 6-week education program for parents and family caregivers of children and teens who are experiencing signs of behavioral or mental health concerns or who have a diagnosis. NAMI Basics is offered in a group setting so you can connect with other people face-to-face.
You’ll learn the facts about mental health conditions and how best to support your child at home, at school and when they’re getting medical care. The course is taught by a trained team  of parents with lived experience—they know what you’re going through because they’ve been there. The 6-session program provides critical strategies for taking care of your child and learning the ropes of recovery.
2017 Spring Class Schedule

If you are interested in a class, you are encouraged to submit a completed registration form. If you are in crisis and feel the need for support, you are encouraged to attend one of their Family Support Groups until you can get into a class.

Saturdays, April 1 – May 13 (no class April 15) from 10:00 a.m.-12:30 p.m., at Southeast Wellness Center, 2901 Montopolis Dr., Austin, TX 78741. Click here to register.

St.David's Hiring RRISD Graduating Seniors

St. David’s is hiring RRISD graduating seniors who:
  • Want a paid summer job AND
  • Want a paid job while attending a local college/university AND
  • Want to work at St. David’s for at least 2 years after finishing related degree AND
  • Want tuition reimbursement of up to $5,250 per year!
  • NOTE: Qualified students must comply with ALL of the bullets above.
St. David’s is hiring students in entry level positions:
  • Food Services, Housekeeping, etc.
  • St. David’s will also hire Health Science students who qualify for entry level healthcare positions such as Patient Care Technician and Patient Transporter.

2017 Ethics in Youth Conference

Round Rock ISD high school students are invited to meet potential employers and further develop their ethical foundation during the 2017 Ethics in Youth Conference on March 25.
Hosted by the Round Rock ISD Partners in Education (PIE) Foundation, RecognizeGood and Round Rock ISD, the conference will feature speakers from RecongizeGood and organizations across Central Texas to share advice on business ethics, communication and building relationships. After presentations, professional development will also be available for students who wish to have their resume reviewed by a Career and Technical Education professional or receive one-on-one coaching by a member of RecognizeGood. Employers from across the city will also be available to host onsite interviews with students.
The conference will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Westwood High School Cafeteria. To attend, students must register online by March 8.

Students are asked to bring 10-15 copies of their resume and dress in business casual attire. Students who wish to have their resume reviewed will need to bring a copy of the document on a USB drive or have it available through GoogleDocs.

Applied Research Laboratories Summer Science and Engineering Apprenticeship Program

Every summer Applied Research Laboratories with The University of Texas at Austin sponsors a Science and Engineering Apprenticeship Program for high school graduates who will be attending a senior college beginning with the Fall semester, and who have applied to UT Austin (preference given to students attending UT Austin, and whose intended majors are electrical, mechanical and aerospace engineering, physics, mathematics, and computer science).

This program, which began in 1982, involves summer employment at Applied Research Laboratories in northwest Austin and provides a "hands-on" introduction to research and development.  This is an amazing summer program for graduating seniors, and it gives them the opportunity to earn a competitive salary ($14.30 an hour) for the 11 week program.  This prestigious group of students also write reports that are published and widely distributed at the end of their summer term.  Please check their website for additional information regarding the program:

Austin Sunshine Camp 2017

Austin Sunshine camps are for children who would not otherwise have an opportunity to attend summer camp. For more information, click here.

Applications:
Applications are now available on the Sunshine Camps website. For children 7-15 please direct them to the Zilker Park and Lake Travis flyer which provides the web address www.sunshinecamps.org/lake-travis or http://www.sunshinecamps.org/zilker/ for their application.

Applying online is the preferred method as it enables parents to, among other things, view their status, access forms, and easily group siblings together. Parents must have access to a printer to apply online!

Please keep in mind that Zilker Park Applications are for children of ages 7-11 and the Lake Travis Application are for children of ages 12- 15.

Address for returning signed consent forms. No faxes will be accepted, we must have the original signature. Application deadline is April 7, 2017.
