Free College and Career Exploration Road Trip

Announcing an exciting, free opportunity for high school students in Texas: Texas OnCourse has teamed up with career exploration organization Roadtrip Nation to offer the Texas Youth Roadtrip.

Students will be moving on to summer very shortly, so Texas OnCourse wants to make sure they apply before it's too late (applications close July 3rd). Students can get more info and apply at this link: rtn.is/texas

Four teams of three high school students will take a mini-adventure through their region of Texas to interview college students and professionals building livelihoods around their passions. With an adult chaperone, these Texans will travel on Roadtrip Nation’s green RV to explore post-secondary paths, and beyond. They’ll also conduct in-depth interviews with working professionals in fields that align with the students’ interests, endorsements, or career aspirations.

Movers & Shakers, Thinkers and Bakers

The changing face of science and engineering reveals that science and engineering is no longer what many think! It now has more interesting applications than ever imagined. UT Austin will be at Westwood High School to talk to Juniors about the STEM education.

The intent is to talk broadly about Science, Engineering, and beyond, the possibilities and the challenges, and the increasingly interdisciplinary nature of fields today to address societal needs. They will not talk much about specific disciplines; rather, the idea will be to inform high schoolers about what Science and Engineering represent today, and try to build some passion toward STEM fields. But they will also discuss more broadly issues related with learning and education, and how students may get prepared to transition to college in any field of their choosing. They will also arrange for a small group of about 3-4 senior UT-Austin undergraduate students (Westwood alums) make a few remarks about their experiences (especially from when the person was a junior in high school to where s/he is now).

The meeting will be held in the Big Black Box from 12:30-1:45 on May 19th

Complete the Senior Survey - Get Your Final Transcript

Seniors should have received an email at their RRISD student email account with a link to the senior survey. This final survey is important for many reasons.
  • The survey provides feedback to RRISD and Westwood staff about our students’ experience at Westwood.
  • When completing the survey, students will indicate the college they will attend next year. This is where their free final transcript will be sent. This is the last step of the survey.
    • Students will not be required to request their transcript through the registrar’s office if they complete the online survey.
    • Students should not complete the survey until they have made their final college decision.
    • If a student makes a change to their final college choice after completing the survey, please see Mr. Pugh to update your school choice.
  • For colleges outside of Texas, please list the name and address of the college.
  • The survey also provides Westwood with information regarding the colleges/universities the members of the class of 2017 will attend.

If you have any questions about the survey, please see Mr. Pugh in D1127.
